The sand flats between the reef tongues are always good places to watch for stingrays searching for a buried meal. Here, Brad positions himself for a shot of a bar jack feeding with one of the southern stingrays at Cumber's Caves reef. The "shadow feeding" bar jack is loyal as a tick to the hunting ray, hoping the sloppy dining habits of the ray will provide it with a morsel or two. We seldom saw any of these southern stingrays without its bar jack companion. Quite a partnership. This was the first dive of our second day on Little Cayman. The dive began along the wall to about 87 feet but we spent much of the 52-minute dive up in the shallower sand tongues on the reef top. |
