Resting Nurse Shark

The classic nurse shark pose: lazing in the sand in the lee of a coral head.

If I didn't know better, I'd say this was a lazy species. Maybe they just enjoy a good siesta. After all, they are one of only a few shark species that even have the ability to rest on the bottom like this. So, maybe they're just showing off.

We found this one up under a little coral ledge on The Medows reef on our first day of diving.

This was our third dive of the day so we remained rather shallow, with a maximum depth of 64 feet. But the advantage was a dive that allowed us more than an hour of bottom time.
