Diving French Polynesia: Moorea

©2001 Ken Riddick
The amazing variety and color of the fish continued to surprise us on these reefs. This Regal Angelfish was common on the reefs but the loud markings always caught your eye. Marine Life of the Pacific and Indian Oceans says this little guy eats mostly sponges and sea squirts and prefers to remain close to cover. The book also says "the young are bright orange with a brilliant eye spot or ocellus on the posterior part of the dorsal fin. It is widely distributed from the Red Sea to the Central Pacific."
